Here are some great videos that Jeff & I took at Machu PIcchu. I also have links to the other videos of the Urabamba River, etc.

The glorious mist enveloping Machu Picchu. It was amazing how fast it would move in, blanket the city & then slowly drift away. It was magical to witness.

Leaving Machu Picchu....it was so sad to leave.

January 23rd, 2010. The raging & overflowing Urabamba river in Aguas Calientes....the town below Machu Picchu. We adverted the landslides & floods by hours. We are so lucky.

While traveling to Ollytayambo in the Sacred Valley, we were driving through flooded streets & landslides. I was only laughing because our tour guide kept saying that it was included from Condor Travel...which was funny.

The landslides were happening every where. Jeff captured some of the horrible devastation of just one of the landslides blocking a road.

Hello Everyone

Well we are home from our awesome trip to Machu Picchu. Many of you heard about the terrible landslides, floods, tourists trapped, etc. at Machu Picchu & we are so lucky that this did not happen to us. We were actually able to visit Machu Picchu 2 days in a row...Friday 1/22 & Sat. 1/23. We adverted the disasters by just a few hours, so I have come to believe that Jeff & I have guardian angels.
I am sadden most for the Peruvians who have lost their homes & crops. They do not have much to begin with, not that they want more, but their homes, family & crops are everything to them. I hate to think of them loosing that. Hopefully there will be some fund-raising efforts to help these people, but I have a feeling with the situation in Haiti, the problems in Peru seem small in comparison. *sigh*
The Peruvians were some of the nicest, proud people I have ever met. I always felt safe in the city & around anyone. They are not materialistic people, they have a great respect for the earth & their families. It shows in their happiness.

This experience was absolutely amazing & I would go again in a heart beat. We took a bus up to the base of Machu Picchu & hiked around the site all day from there. When you walk through the entrance gate you cannot see MP right away. You start walking on a path that curves around the mountain's edge...& then BAM!!! there is Machu Picchu. It actually took my breath away the instant I saw it. I feel so blessed to have experienced the awe, spirituality & beauty of this untouched city. That is what makes it so special...the Spanish never touched it or removed/used the stones to make their churches like did with almost all of the other Incan ruins.

The food there was delicious. I swear there are more vegetarian options in foreign countries than there is in the USA. They had awesome soups, drinks, cheeses & fruits. I did find out the Peruvian specialty is Guinea Pig & Alpaca (Llama)...which I obviously did not eat. Jeff tried the Alpaca & said it tasted gamey like deer. yuck! He wanted to try the guinea pig but he did not want to order a whole meal of it, so he never tried it...thank heavens! lol. One of my favorite things was a non-alcoholic drink called a Chica Morada. It is blue corn juice with cinammon, spices & fruit juices. It is served cold & is outstanding! Im going to have to see if I can find a recipe online.

Here is a link to my snapfish albumn to view about 75 photos.
http://www2.snapfish.com/thumbnailshare/AlbumID=3784285013/a=114821259_114821259/

We took over 1000 so I weeded through them & chose the ones that seemed to represent our experience the best. I am going to post more photos soon from the other places we visited around Cuzco.

Typical View of Machu Picchu with Wayna Picchu Mountain in the background

Jeff & I at the Sun Gate. You can see how far away Machu Picchu is from that point. We hiked our butts all over the place & I still wanted to see more.

Me sketching. I was not able to sketch too much because it was constantly raining on & off, especially on Friday. I was only able to sketch for about 15 minutes....but I have plenty of photos to work from. hehe

More photos to follow.....Enjoy!

I have finished a lovely new painting that is part of my urban faerie series. It is titled "Faerie Funk #2" & was created with oil paints on canvas measuring 8x10 inches.

I believe faeries are big part of our present day. Faerie spirit & lore can be seen every where so I wanted to represent that element of the faerie world. This sassy faerie was not meant to stay in the forest.

Special thanks to model: Fae Stock from deviantart.com for the photo reference.

So one of my dreams will become a reality the last week of this month....and that is seeing Machu Picchu, Peru in person. Ever since I saw the 3x3 inch photo of Machu Picchu in my art history book 15 years ago, I have dreamed of experiencing this magical ancient site with my own eyes & hands.
There is something about ancient runes that give me goose bumps when I visit them in person. They are mysterious, spiritual, humbling & just breathtaking.

I cannot wait to experience the awe of Machu Picchu. I will be sure to post photos when I return, but I have a feeling it will hard to choose just a few out of the thousands we will take.

Well 2009 is almost over...wow, time really does go by so fast. I have been reading some other artists doing a year end review of their art/business & I think it is a great idea not only for you, but also for myself. It gives me perspective on where I want to take my art & business in 2010.

2009 Recap

Total Shows = 6 (FYI: One of my shows is 7 weekends long, but I LOVE IT!)
Paintings/Drawings = 12
New Products = 3
Number of days at shows = 32
Number of Signings = 2
Number of weekends at shows = 15

I created a new website, from scratch on my own. That was a huge undertaking, but I am very happy with the results. I also opened up & created an Ebay & Zazzle Store. Created a Facebook Account & fan page. Succumbed to creating a Twitter account, which I did only a week or two ago. hehe.
I also started making Limited Edition Canvas Prints, ACEO cards & new jewelry. I have found that there are ACEO collectors on Ebay which has been a nice way to get my art out there.

I was also honored & blessed to partake in Larry Elmore's week long painting class in Kentucky. I met a bunch of cool people, laughed my butt off & learned some great painting techniques from master artist Larry Elmore. What more could I ask for?!

PLANS FOR 2010

* MAKE MORE ART!!! I always tell myself I need to paint/draw more & I did do better this year, than last year, but there is always a need to create more.
* Create & Send out flyers to retail businesses to promote my art/products wholesale.
* Create a new jewelry product.
* Consider adding other shows to my list....this all depends on distance. One of the negatives of living in Florida is my only way out of state is north so I do not have as many options within driving distance as I would like.

I am currently working on a portrait series of Urban Faeries called "Faerie Funk". You can see my WIP pictures on my Facebook Page. I should have these 2 paintings completed by the end of this weekend.

I want to thank each & everyone of you who has supported me....for visiting me at shows, sending me emails & for your stream of compliments & encouragement. You keep me going & I couldn't ask for anything more. THANK YOU!!
A huge thank you to all of my fellow artists/friends, both online & in person, for answering my gazillion art/business questions..... Especially fellow artists/friends [info]carritravis & [info]tigerpixieart. I love Carri/e's!!!!

I also need to thank [info]thephoenixx for giving me the idea to do this....thank you Ash, you rock!

I hope you all have a wonderful Holiday.
I have high hopes for 2010! I think it is going to be a great year.
